LLM teaching – EU Constitutional Law and Governance in Turbulent Times
The School of Law of UCLan Cyprus held an LLM module within the framework of CRoLEV, entitled EU Constitutional Law and Governance in Turbulent Times. The module took place on the 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd of October 2022. The module was open to external participation and drew a range of students at different levels, from LLB and advanced students, and several professionals interested in the topic. The module carefully investigated various threats to European values across the EU. It analysed the constitutional structure of the EU and the ways in which it is designed to safeguard key values such as the rule of law, democracy, and fundamental rights, but also critically looked at the rule of law and democracy backsliding currently taking place in various member states. Students and external participants were able to delve into the various activities governments in several countries take to undermine European values.
Other co- and extra-curricular teaching activities
Within the framework of CRoLEV, teaching activities took place in modules both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Students of the compulsory LLB module ‘EU Law’ examined threats to the rule of law and European values across the EU, investigating the effect of such eroding activity on the European project overall. Similarly, postgraduate students of the compulsory LLM module ‘Advanced Legal Studies’ evaluated the ways in which the European Union has used various mechanism to seek to stifle rule of law and democratic backsliding within the EU, critically discussing the effect of such efforts.
Furthermore, a series of intensive courses have been designed and delivered to recipient institutions and participants across Europe and beyond. For material from those intensive courses, you may click here. For forthcoming intensive courses and instructions on how to register, please click here.
